Combatives and NLP- sound therapist and holistic psychologist Jeff Moran gives his perspective

Whilst not a martial arts instructor alternative therapist and teacher Jeff Moran has had a big influence on my work, introducing me to many new concepts and ideas such as living in the Now, Eckhart Tolle, the power of sound, cymatics and some fascinating elements of New Age spirituality rooted in a practical approach to psychotherapy and counselling like transactional analysis and inner child work. It was Jeff who trained me to deliver seminars on motivation, memory and communication in schools across the UK. Under his tutelage I went from being a Taxi Driver to being a key note speaker at the Annual Education Conference alongside people like Tony Buzan. When it comes to holistic psychology, working with children or difficult clients, alternative therapies and emotional healing alongside the missing link of modern day self protection, self assertiveness training, Jeff is the dude.
This hour long chat came from a desire to promote two simple products of Jeffs, whose main passions are Sound and Cymatics- and the way different Sounds affect the brain and body. The two Sound products of Jeffs that I thought would be useful to martial arts students are his RelaxationCD- slowing the brain waves down, an EXCELLENT tool to just switch off and unwind and his Optimum Performance CD- designed using state of the art brainwave altering sound technology to organically speed up brain wave patterns over a 50 minute period to increase reaction time and improve reflexes. During this chat we learnt that both of us had trained under Aikido instructor and Spiritual guide Terry Ezra- for very different reasons but with similar results. I respect anyone who will pursue an obsession wherever it takes them and puts the good of others before personal gain.
So much of combatives and self protection and the material I have produced so far are focussed on the capacity to deliver destruction, I even have materials training you in how to deliver this destruction at a psychological and emotional level, and I think Jeff provides a good balance.
Jeff isnt a martial artist, but I think you will notice on these video clips he has that air about him that a lot of martial arts instructors have- and having seen him handle a roomful of rowdy 16 year olds I think I know where that comes from!
His views and opinions on my questions related to combatives are natural and off the cuff and some of them cut to the core of the issues very quickly. Its a breath of fresh air to talk to somebody outside our community who has no prior knowledge and no political affiliations.
Anyway, its an hour long chat so I hope you get the time to go through it, its worth it even if you only catch a bit of the flavour of what Jeff is drifting. This isnt namby pamby New Age posturing for bored middle class housewives this is rooted in direct, powerful technique to manifest change.
So if you have ever sought to actually model what I do instead of just following what I teach, you really should leap at this opportunity to listen to a person who I consider to be one of the biggest influences on my approach to the martial arts, teaching and life.
