Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) help physical therapists in their daily activities which include assisting patients during rehabilitation. Their patients include accident victims and clients with such conditions as burns, amputations, stroke, vertigo, low back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy. Physical therapist assistants must earn an associate’s degree in physical therapist assisting in order to practice. Currently there are over 250 accredited physical therapist assistant programs in the country. Curriculum varies from program to program, but in addition to the theory and practice of physical therapy, you’ll probably study the basic medical sciences and other general education courses. You’ll also gain plenty of hands-on experience in a clinical internship.

If you decide to pursue a career in respiratory therapy, you will need to complete an accredited respiratory therapy program. This might entail obtaining a bachelor’s degree, although an associate?s degree is much more common. Your education will begin with basic chemistry, anatomy, biology, physiology and mathematics studies. Then you will move on to more advanced and specialized classes such as diagnostic procedures, equipment use and care, patient assessment, and cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation, rehabilitation, and treatment. Most likely, you will study health promotion and disease prevention, medical recordkeeping, and billing as well. In most states, you will have to become licensed after completion of your studies with a test called the CRT (certified respiratory therapist) examination.

Marriage and family therapy is the process of building and repairing relationships between people by listening to and observing the way they interact, and helping them learn new ways. It is a very rewarding profession as you watch people change their lives for the better. You will know that you have had a very important role in improving their futures. In some states, the practice of marriage and family therapy (MFT) is called marriage, family and child counseling (MFCC). The therapists can meet entire families, couples, or individual family members. In most cases, the therapy is based on talking. Individuals often reveal the deepest parts of their problems simply by telling stories about their lives. The marriage and family therapy specialist listens and ask questions in order to uncover the issues that affect the relationship. Students preparing for the MFT or MFCC certification exam study a wide range of subjects including psychology, childhood development, addictions, mental illnesses, and therapist ethics. They may also learn about cultural attitudes, anthropology, and the history of human psychology studies. In addition to the practical observation and patient interaction that are part of most marriage and family therapy school programs, most states require an internship of as many as 2000 hours as part of the licensing procedure.
