Letters to Sam

Korean Title: Sam-ege Bonaeneun Pyeonji Author: Daniel Gottlieb Translator: Myeong-hee Kim, Moon-jae Lee Publisher: Munhakdongne Hardcover | 248 pages | 217*146mm Important! Please read before you order! >>>This book is written in Korean . About This Book A Grandfather’s Lessons on Love, Loss, and the Gifts of Life Review by C.S. Clarke, Ph.D. This touching (but not sentimental) book is a series of letters from a grandfather to a grandson, each of whom has a disability. What makes the book so moving is that the writer, a psychotherapist for many years, is able to express himself with such completely open emotional honesty and to tell the hard truths about himself. He wants to do more than simply share the valuable lessons he has learned while living through his own pain, loss and disability. He wants his grandson to remember that life is full of potential love and joy and that working through the inevitable challenges he will face will serve to bring him even greater love and joy. But there is much more here. The letters cover hard-won and profound insights into many questions we all ask ourselves about the unrealistic expectations and dissapointments we find in life. Insights about how we interpret and misinterpret events and the actions of others. Insights about what is valuable and what is distraction. Insights about hope, acceptance and compassion. The book takes a short time to read. It has taken a lifetime for Daniel Gottlieb to learn the wisdom he writes. He shares his words with his grandson and with us in hopes that we may assimilate his lessons in a much shorter and easier time than it took him. About The Author Daniel Gottlieb, a practicing psychologist and family therapist, is the host of Voices in the Family on WHYY, Philadelphia’s National Public Radio affiliate. A columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, he is author of two books, including a collection of his columns entitled Voices of Conflict; Voices of Healing. He is the

The Prodigal Tongue Dispatches from the Future of English

An exhilarating exploration of how the world’s languages are likely to transform and be transformed by their speakers Mark Abley, author of Spoken Here, takes the reader on a global journey like no other–from Singapore to Tokyo, from Oxford to Los Angeles, through the Internet and back in time. As much a travel book as a tour of words at play, The Prodigal Tongue goes beyond grammar and vocabulary to discover how language is irrevocably changing the people of the world in far-reaching ways. On his travels, Abley encounters bloggers, translators, novelists, therapists, dictionary makers, hip-hop performers, and Web-savvy teens. He talks to a married couple who corresponded passionately online before they met in “meatspace.” And he listens to teenagers, puzzling out the words they coin in chat rooms and virtual worlds. Everywhere he goes, he asks what the future is likely to hold for the ways we communicate. Abley balances a traditional concern for honesty and accuracy in language with a less traditional delight in the sheer creative energy of new words and expressions. Provocative, perceptive, and often hilarious, this is a book for everyone who cherishes the words we use.

I live in Los Angeles, have been seeing a therapist that looks good on paper – teaches psychology, was referred to me by someone – but I think she’s awful. I don’t want to blindly go from one therapist to another randomly until I find someone that is good. Is there a way to get feedback from other patients, or someone I can go to for a referral? (in Los Angeles).

The only way to find a therapist you like is to try them. Or ask some other people you know. Therapists are all different just like people, some get along better with you depending on your personality.
