Books

A FROG IN MY BASEMENT A THERAPIST’S CURIOUS JOURNEY INTO ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY AND THE LAW OF ATTRACTION Would you trust a psychotherapist that shook and yawned throughout your session? Probably not. But what if the techniques you learned while working with that therapist totally changed your life? What if you were finally able to let go of your old fears and negative beliefs and actually create the happiness you have yearned for? Would you then be willing to open your mind to new ways of healing, even if they seemed strange or unusual, because you knew they worked? That was the question psychotherapist Joan Feldman was faced with when a series of clearly curious and most strange happenings forced her out of her traditional training and practice and into the powerful new healing paradigm of Energy Psychology and the Law of Attraction. In this highly personal book the author recounts her remarkable journey from traditional psychotherapist to alternative healer. The book is rich with humor, wisdom, practice techniques and profound teaching tales that can benefit everyone from the mildly curious to the serious seeker. “A warm and conversational book that will touch your heart, give you hope and provide you with very tools you need to create positive and lasting change in your life.”

Psychology and the Church
Subtitled “Critical Questions, Crucial Answers”
FOR NEARLY TWO THOUSAND YEARS prior to the rise of modern psychiatry and psychotherapy, the church has ministered to believers experiencing mental, emotional, and behavioral problems by using the teachings of the Scriptures and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Contemporary Christianity’s embrace of psychology, then, raises an important question: Was there an insufficiency on the part of God’s Word and His Holy Spirit during those two millennia that made it necessary for the church to turn to modern psychotherapy in order to more effectively address a Christian’s problems of living?
Crucial answers to that question will be the focus of this program, as we consider the influence of psychological counseling upon the church. In the history of contemporary Christendom, no secular enterprise has had such a profound influence on Christianity as has psychological counseling. The critical question raised by these developments is: Have they been helpful or harmful to the body of Christ? T.A. McMahon, co-author of The Seduction of Christianity, is your host for this ground-breaking documentary. Featuring perspectives and insights of both Christian and secular experts including Martin and Deidre Bobgan, Tana Dineen, and Dave Hunt, this powerful presentation exposes the roots—and results—of Christianity’s embrace of the beliefs of Freud, Jung, Rogers, Maslow, and others.

Depression Anxiety Sleep Disorder Treatment: Five Ways Of Dealing With The Condition
Depression anxiety sleep disorder treatment usually involves a trip to a psychiatrist and a daily dose of sleeping pills and/or anti-anxiety medications. However, there are alternative means available to you to face this disorder without resorting much to medications. If you have the will power, patience and courage to fight depression, you can succeed using these alternative means.
Sleep disorder goes hand in hand with depression and anxiety.
It has been documented by psychiatrists that nearly all of those who are suffering from depression and anxiety have sleep disorder. The reason for this is said to be physiological in nature.
Whenever a person is depressed and anxious, his body is in what doctors call a “fight or flight” mode. This means that the body is full of epinephrine. Fight or flight response occurs naturally in a person whenever he faces a difficult situation that threatens his being. It is a natural or instinctive survival response of humans to adversities.
For instance, when there’s a fire, the body will produce epinephrine to be able to move quickly, be more alert, have heightened senses and save strength. So, if an anxious person is in a fight or flight mode, he would have difficulty sleeping. With less sleep, this also means that the hormonal imbalance will continue to disrupt the normal processes of the body.
With these, it means the best depression anxiety sleep disorder treatment is something that confronts anxiety. And thus, the alternative mode of treatment for this disorder shall focus on attacking anxiety.
1. Get vitamin E and B complex supplements.
Vitamin B complex is known to calm the nerves. This is best taken at night. But do you know that Vitamin E can also help you sleep at night? These two wonder vitamins are the best alternative to depression anxiety sleep disorder treatments and medications. They naturally help the body to relax and be ready to sleep.
2. Avoid sugar and caffeine.
Sugar and caffeine perk a person up, which is why pancakes and coffees are best taken during early mornings. However, since your anxiety has increased your levels of epinephrine, you don’t need anymore of those things that will perk you up. Avoid sugar and caffeine at all cost. As an alternative to coffee, try chamomile tea. This is caffeine free and soothes the nerves, too.
3. Learn how to meditate.
You don’t need to be a guru to learn how to meditate. Just attend a couple of yoga sessions that will teach you the basics on correct breathing and meditation techniques. Meditation will slow down your heart rate and will calm your mind. If you can, continue what you have started with yoga. It will do you good.
4. Get counseling.
Counseling is important for your speedy recovery. Even without medications you can hire the services of a therapist to help you manage your illness and give you a chance to voice out your feelings and emotions to help you deal with your anxiety and depression without fear.
A therapist can give you more recommendations as to what other alternative means of depression anxiety sleep disorder treatment is available to you. And if you are already into alternative treatment, you can ask your therapist if you are on the right track and share with him your progress.
5. Tire yourself with exercise.
Instead of spending your time thinking, tire yourself with exercise. Release that excess epinephrine through working out. Walk, run the treadmill, swim, jog — these are some of the many cardiovascular exercises that can help you release that excess energy. Do this at night, three hours before your scheduled sleeping time. This way, after a tiring exercise session, your body is ready to relax and sleep to recharge for the next day.
These are just a few of the many alternative depression anxiety sleep disorder treatments that you can choose from. If you find any of these alternative treatments to be sound and helpful for your condition, discuss with your therapist how you can incorporate them in your program towards being well.

The idea of online counseling may still come as a surprise to many, especially older people who are not as familiar with the internet as younger people, but it is fast becoming the way for most people to get the help, therapy and counseling that they need. The availability of online therapy or counseling has been successful in tearing down the barriers that have kept many people from getting the help that they need. The barrier was the discomfort, mixed emotions and inability to physically go down to the therapist’s office and speak with them in person; these three reasons are what has prevented many people from seeking help for their depression, which has left many individuals suffering in silence.
Depression is a curious mental health problem that too many people are suffering. What makes it so curious is that depression is caused by different variables in different people. Some people suffer depression as a result of certain genes they have inherited from one or both of their parents, a poor social life or chemical imbalance in the brain; just to name a few. Study and research is still being done on the causes of depression as well as how to better treat it, but this does not mean that there isn’t help for people who are already suffering from some form of depression. Many people are unaware that they have depression, others are aware that there is something wrong but are unable to ask for help for any number of reasons and there are still others who know they are depressed and want help, but are not comfortable with speaking to someone in person; this could also be due to any number of different reasons. Online therapy is an option that is yet another way for depressed people to find help. Online therapy and counseling is just like the regular therapy, but it is more confidential, because there is less of a chance that others will see the patient going to see the therapist, and it gives the patient the chance to speak to someone in their own comfort zone.
The online therapists that people would go to for help for their depression are fully trained professionals who can help people find their way out of the depression they are experiencing. By the therapist exchanging messages with their patient online, they can work with the patient to first find out what the cause of their depression might be. Once a possible cause is found, the therapist can then help the patient learn to deal with these issues and help them get out of the resulting depression. Many people are still a little skeptical of online depression, but it has been around for a while, been proven to work just as well as regular therapy and is something that will probably be around for a very long time. More and more people are seeking help for their depression through online therapy because they feel more comfortable messaging someone in the privacy and comfort of their own home. Many people have been successfully treated for their depression through online therapy; people who would not have normally sought help if online therapy was not an option for them.
